Inquiry#5

I feel that this reading is very important to all humans on the face of this earth. Breast cancer has become very serious now then ever before. More and more women are being diagnosed with breast cancer. So many families are losing beloved mothers, daughters, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, and cousins. The other sad part about is that chemicals in the air may be the cause of this deadly cancer. There are plenty of other cancers that have been proven that it was caused by certain chemicals in the air. We're killing ourselves! Without I believe that these things are known in advance, but yet they're still released without any care about the earth's atmosphere which if harmed will effect all humans. I feel this way because cigarettes are deadly. I like to call them cancer sticks. The company who makes them have no problem with increasing the effectiveness of the nicotine to make it order to quit smoking, so that customers will continue to buy only to make a profit. Its no okay to walk up to someone and kill them, but its legal to kill millions of people to make a profit. So I really like this reading. It caused me to do a lot of thinking. Sometimes I just wonder if America really cares about it's citizens' welfare?

I definitely agree with your point you made about us killing ourselves for profit. I do not smoke number 1 for health reasons..my grandfather died from lung cancer from smoking..and I just in general think there's nothing positive about it (stinky clothes, yellow teeth) so I get frustrated that I can't go enjoy a club without inhaling the stuff! But back to the profit idea..that's all America cares about now a days in my opinion...the "clan" could have just sought out justice by raising the awareness, and having the chemicals quit being released and harming people...but no..they had to take it as far as to receive compensation past just medical bills. Honestly yes, some women may have not gotten breast cancer had they not been exposed to these chemicals, but some would have gotten it regardless..it's not a perfect science. As for the points that Obama touches in his speech on race...it's is/was about profit. My opinion is that we are all Americans..not African American, Native American...just all plain Americans. I did not have any say in the past therefore why should I be held responsible for the past and pay other "races" compensation for past discriminations? The same is true for these "other" races..the current black generations were not slaves from the past...yes the older generations were still subject to discimination and segregation..but why should they receive compensation for the slaves being mistreated when they were not one themselves. I disagree with Obama when he says "I am married to a black American who carries within her the blood of slaves and slave owners, an inheritance we pass on to our two precious daughters"--this is not inherited. Yes it may be part of their ancestry..but they did not inherit slavery. Another thing I disliked about Obama's speech is that through out..there was more "segregated" sentences then united ones. Meaning throughout the whole 40 minute speech maybe 5 minutes worth didn't specific a particular races and instead used terms like "our childern", "we", and "all men and women". I found several of his statements contradictory to the format of his entire speech. My final thought about this particular issue is that Obama states that race is an issue that cannot be ignored..but honestly if we continue to acknowledge the "races" we are still segregating our American citizens. We need to cease ALL forms for segregation and move past it as AMERICANS! I'm not saying that I disagreed with his entire speech because he did make some very good, agreeable points..I'm just saying it's contradictory..I feel as if American does care about it's citizens, but in segregated groups still, not as ONE NATION of Americans.
