How should one live?
Although not a hard question if you actually know what you're doing here(in a larger sense). I guess easier said than done. I came up with a response as follows.
One should live to better one's self, defining yourself a person with individuality and character. I was talking with my brother about this and he put it simply, "It's an ongoing metamorphosis, in the end you meta-morphed right back into the earth." Some people try to chase this idea of a life style when it should just come to you.
As said by JFK, "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." I believe the concept is an interpretation of selflessness. Striving for a selfless attitude with the dedication of improving mental well being is an essential for life growth as a person.
By putting these ideas of bettering yourself as well as a selfless attitude towards people; together we can come to the conclusion of how one should live.
The question is, how should one live to better one's self?

There is no right answer to how one should live because we are all such diverse individuals. Luckily, after reading most of the inquiries, i realized there is a consensus on the main points in finding true happiness in one's life.
Nathan describes how he believes that in order to find true happiness, one needs to have a selfless attitude. Quoting JFK, "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country"(NathanC), Nathan perfectly makes his point clear to how he feels. He is not only asking what one can do for the better of one person but what can we do for people as a whole. Even though we may love and appreciate our circle of loved ones, friends, etc, there is still a colossal amount of people in the world that have a purpose and that matter. So maybe we should not only realize and cherish the people in our lives, but also acknowledge that we should be friend a stranger and reach out to others as if they were our loved ones.
I definitely concur with Nathan's insight on life. Being selfless may seem a hassle from the outside looking in, but i promise you that a selfless person feels content because making someone else smile and making a difference is one of the most rewarding gifts.
If Martha Nussbaum were to read Nathan's inquiry i believe she would fill rather content with his answer. Her response to his question "How should one live to better one's self" would start with the initiation of her Central Human Capabilities column. Nussbaum would say that Nathan captured the broaden sense of her theory, yet she would more than likely create an emphasis for her response. For an example, she would state in order to better one's self, we need to realize that there are people in this world who are less fortunate and need a little bit more help to live a good life because of their circumstance. To pin point it, She described how people who are disabled should able to see the beautiful things in our world such as a lake or a gorgeous view. In order to do this people have created ramps to over come obstacles that disabled one may find a lot more difficult then we would. All in all. they are human beings and should be treated as equals too. Last but not least, Nussbaum would bring up the quote "Oh those people don't pay their own way". Referring to people who have disorders and mental disabilities, she would say to better one's self we need to realize that even the most unexpected characters can distribute something more rewarding than funding towards our economy.
Love and unconditionally loving others, being the most priceless thing in the world, needs to become more abundant in order to better one's self in making this world a better place.
When was the last time you gave out a helping hand to a stranger out of selflessness?
